1. What does SCRC Verified mean?
SCRC Verified means that the tutor has opted to apply for a Sexual Conviction Record Check (SCRC) and is confirmed to not have any past conviction records against a specified list of sexual offences as of the Last Update date.
For your reference, SCRC is a voluntary scheme administered by the Hong Kong Police Force and is available to eligible applicants who are involved with child-related work or work relating to mentally incapacitated persons. Please visit the SCRC website for more details.
2. How does MusicSage screen tutors?
MusicSage reviews each tutor’s profile before it is published on the platform and eliminates any profile that does not comply with our Terms & Conditions.
3. Is there a limit to the number of trials I book?
No, there is no limit. In fact, we encourage students to trial several tutors before deciding on one.
4. What do I get charged?
Beyond paying for lesson fees upfront, students do not pay for agency fees or any other fees.
5. Can I get a refund?
For the trial lesson, we guarantee a full refund of the lesson fee if the tutor is unable to attend the scheduled lesson.
For post-trial lessons, refunds are available for paid lessons if students submit a request to MusicSage five days in advance of the next scheduled lesson.
6. Do I need an instrument for the trial lesson?
Unless you already have access to an instrument, we would not recommend purchasing one for the trial lesson.
For larger instruments like the piano, you may choose to visit the tutor’s studio. Or, if your residence has a clubhouse, you may also consider asking whether an instrument (with a studio room) is available for rent.
For smaller instruments like the violin, most tutors are typically able to lend you their own instrument for the trial lesson.
If you are interested in long term lessons after the trial, then we would encourage students to rent or purchase their own instrument for practicing. Your tutor would usually be able to make a recommendation on what and where to rent or purchase.
7. Can I learn as a group?

1. Is it safe to teach students I connect with through MusicSage?
By signing up on MusicSage, students have agreed to our Terms & Conditions. Nonetheless, we encourage tutors to engage in a phone or video conversation with students in advance of the first lesson if it offers greater comfort.
2. Do I pay any fees?
No fees are charged to tutors for creating and publishing a profile.
For trial lessons, we charge a 50% commission on the lesson fee (minimum commission is HKD250 per lesson). Tutors earn the remaining 50% of the trial lesson fee (if any), net of all payment processing charges.
For post-trial lessons, we charge a 12% commission on the lesson fee, which includes any payment processing charges.
Trial Lesson Example:
If a tutor charges HKD300 per lesson, 50% of this fee is only HKD150. Given the minimum commission requirement, MusicSage will deduct HKD250 from the lesson fee and only the remaining HKD50 (net of all payment processing charges) will be transferred to the tutor.
3. When do I receive the lesson fees?
For trial lessons, all fees (after deducting our commission and any payment processing charges) for scheduled lessons paid for by the student on or before the 20th of each month will be transferred on or before the last working day of each month into either the tutor’s HSBC account or PayPal bank account, or deposited by cheque. All scheduled lessons paid for by the student after the 20th of each month will be transferred or deposited in the following month.
For post-trial lessons, all fees (after deducting our commission) for paid lessons completed on or before the 20th of each month will be transferred on or before the last working day of each month into either the tutor’s HSBC account or PayPal bank account, or deposited by cheque. All paid lessons completed after the 20th of each month will be transferred or deposited in the following month.
4. What if the student asks for a refund?
For the trial lesson, we guarantee a full refund of the lesson fee to students if the tutor is unable to attend the scheduled lesson.
For post-trial lessons, refunds are available to students for all unused lessons if they submit a request to MusicSage five days in advance of the next scheduled lesson.
To avoid any misunderstanding, refunds cannot be offered directly by the tutor to the student. Please contact us if any refund situation arises.
5. Can I add transportation fees to my profile if I teach at the student’s home?
No, MusicSage does not currently offer this feature.
6. Can I reject trial lesson requests?
Schedules change, we understand. It is important that you keep the availabilities on your profile up-to-date.
If you reject (or do not confirm within 24 hours) more than three trial lesson requests over the course of using MusicSage, then your profile will be deleted from the platform.
7. Why was my profile not published?
If your profile contains any inappropriate content or does not comply with our Terms & Conditions, MusicSage will not publish it.

9. How do I update my profile?
You may log into your account through our website and make any edits directly. For videos, we would ask you to please contact us for assistance.
10. Who can write reviews about me?
Any student we refer with whom you have completed lessons is eligible to write a review.
11. How are tutor profiles ranked on MusicSage?
Tutors who best fulfill the student’s search request (e.g. by instrument, venue, location, etc.) will rank higher. In addition, those tutors who have the highest 5-star rating based on the greatest number of student reviews are ranked even higher.
12. Should I create a profile even though I rent and teach out of a studio with other tutors?
MusicSage primarily accommodates independent, private music tutors. However, it is possible for you to create a personal profile on MusicSage and input the relevant venue and location details specific to the studio instead.
